Description: I had a stop over in London for a day before returning to the States from a Nepal vacation. I met my British girlfriend and she proceeded to show me London in that day. Best way she said, "was the Big Bus." The Big Bus Tours travel several routes through London where you can Hop-on and Hop off for a set fee. It has stops at museums, tourist attractions, galleries, restaurants and more. With the use of a head set, you can enjoy a commentary that is informative & historical while you tour the sites of London. Sit in the open air top of the double decker bus for unobstructed views of the city and decide which area you want to explore as you travel the red, blue or green line. The lines all intersect with each other for more options and the busses make frequent stops.
We started out from our hotel at stop 40 near Kensington Gardens and continued past the Marble Arch, where only the members of royal families are allowed to pass through. We rode past Piccadilly Circus & to Leicester Square at stop 9 where we had lunch, walked past the National Museum and visited Trafalgar Square. The price of the tour included a cruise on the River Thames. The ticket also includes the option of three different guided walking tours near stop 10. The cruise is orally narrated as we passed under London bridge, the Millennium Bridge and on to view Cleopatras Needle, The London Eye & Big Ben before docking near Westminister Abbey . We walked & took a tour of the Abbey before hopping back on the bus to St. Pauls Cathedral and the Shard, a 87 story and 1016 ft. skyscraper completely made from glass. We got off on stop 26 to visit Buckingham Palace & to walk through the palace gardens and that of St. James Park. We hopped back on at stop 34 & rode past the Science & Natural History Museum & St. Mary Abbots before returning to our starting point. My friend was right; she did show me London in one day!
Once you purchase a ticket, it is valid for 24 hours. The tours run everyday except for Christmas Day. Tickets can be purchased from uniformed Big Bus staff located at most stops. They can also be purchased online and they sell tickets to many attractions such as Madame Tussauds Museum. Tickets run about $30 per person and $15 for children.
