Windsurfing

Hookipa was discovered about 20 years ago by the windsurfing community and is now considered the best spot in the world to set sail and ride the huge waves on a windsurfer board.

If you have not seen this before these people are insane. The winds are big and the surf is very big and they zoom around at up to 30 miles an hour flipping over waves and soaring into the air.

A new thing to do is to attach a board to your feet and use a kite to pull you along with astonishing velocity. Some of these folks can get airborne up to 40 feet in the air as they use the waves as jumping ramps to take off. It makes for a fun afternoon to sit in the car or walk down to the breezy beach and watch these kids risk their lives.
