If you're shopping for a child, or just want to feel like a kid again for an afternoon, the mandatory stop is the FAO Schwartz at the northern end of 5th Avenue. The first floor is entirely dedicated to stuffed animals, from 4" tall frogs to to lion hand puppets to 5 foot long alligators. And that's just the first floor. From there you've got Barbies and legos and games and sports equipment and everything you can think of!
For a quick lunch, grab a famous NYC hot dog or pretzel from a vendor.
