Metrowest

I have passed by Metro West dozens of times and finally decided to give the course a try. I flew in on a Thursday afternoon and wanted a course that was easily accessible from the airport. It was a 30-minute drive, but the directions were quite easy (528 West to 4 East to Metro Drive Boulevard), so this course fit the bill.

My one lasting impression--the greens were lightning fast!! It took me about six holes to finally adjust to the speed of the them. Unfortunately by that time, I had already three-putted on three holes. Chipping was equally difficult. I felt that several holes were a little unfair in that it was difficult to keep a chip on the green even with a pretty decent shot.

One piece of advice: don’t play from the white tees. I was playing with three strangers who wanted to play from the white tees so I decided to go along for the first nine holes. This made the course far too easy. All of the sand traps were taken out of play off of the tees and you only had to use your short irons on the approaches to the green. Don’t get me wrong, this might help your score, but it was not nearly as fun or challenging as the back nine which we played from the blue tees.

My overall impression was that this course was adequate, but nothing special. I paid a twilight rate of $65--any more than that and I would have been very disappointed. The course was well-maintained but there wasn’t anything that really stood out about the experience. The scenery was fairly generic, and most of the holes were very standard. Everyone in the group had the same impression-–a decent course, but nothing special.
