Epcot is really boring. "It's even boring to fly over," said Homer Simpson. However, in the last few years, Disney has added two top-notch rides called "Test Track" and "Mission Space." Test track demonstrates how GM tests their crappy cars. You do a battery of ABS, heat and cold tests, hill climbing and other family friendly road tests in a 6-seat "car." The end is a crash dummy test that you go through the wall and end up on a banked track at 65mph. The ride flat-out rocks! Even my 4 year old liked it!

Mission Space blasts you up into space in either a wimpy ride (green side) or the more adult ride (orange side) so you can experience weightlessness without leaving the ground. Pretty sweet!

All of the rest of the attractions are educational or multinational and are boring.

Epcot

Epcot’s motto is to “Explore the World in a Day”. Epcot does a great job of doing this by letting you explore all of the different pavilions that are decorated in the featured country’s motif. The exhibits in the different countries include restaurants and shops native to the country in which it is displayed in.

There were so many outstanding things to see and do in these pavilions. My favorite one was seeing the Eiffel Tower and enjoying the shopping in France. The stores at this country had items such as perfumes, wines, and soaps. They also had a bakery with gorgeous desserts that were very tempting.

All of the exhibits that they had were interesting and very true to the culture of the country it was representing. In Mexico there is an active marketplace with baskets, pottery, and clothing for sale. In Italy the architecture was designed after buildings from Venice, they even had gondolas and bridges that you would normally see in Italy. In Germany they marketed their beers and crystal jewelry. There were lots of interesting things to see and do at each of these buildings. Some of them even had their own rides that represented unique things about their country.

Of course what is Disney without a celebration at night? Luckily, I don’t have to answer that because Epcot had a wonderful laser and fireworks show all choreographed to music. They even had images of the seven different continents unique treasures displayed on a large screen while this show was underway. This certainly was a Disney celebration that I’m glad I didn’t miss.

Epcot Center may have been more popular in the 80s when it was brand new, but it is still excellent for family fun. Split into two sections—Future World and the World Showcase—both are unique and have wonderful attractions.

The World Showcase is one of the best ways to see the countries of the world without boarding a plane, train or boat. Most countries have an IMAX movie, or other special ride or attraction. The architecture of this part of the park is outstanding. From the authentic feel of the Moroccan village to the Eiffel Tower—the attention to detail is outstanding.

Aside from the World Showcase's attractions, it also boasts the best food anywhere in the Disney parks. The ethnic cuisine at the walk up stands and sit down restaurants is impeccable. They even have a crepe stand in France and Churros in Mexico! A couple of times a year they have festivals featuring food and wine from different countries. I have never personally attended one, but I have heard very positive things.

There are several excellent tours that focus on different themes of Epcot that might interest specific groups. The ones that focus on the World Showcase are very popular and informative. Great for people that are trying to see as much of the park that interests them as possible in a short amount of time.

Future World is excellent as well. The attractions here are top notch from the new "Soarin" ride to the classic Spaceship Earth. The Soarin ride is a thrilling way to get a simulated birds-eye view of the California countryside.

Though there are other parts of Disney World more suited for small children, Epcot does have certain things that are great for kids. The "Honey I shrunk the Audience" movie is entertaining and age appropriate. If you don't mind the kids staying up until the park closes, the Illuminations Fireworks show on the lagoon is awesome. This is a great amusement park for everyone!

Epcot - World Showcase - Part I

By the time we finished with the front of Epcot, we were hot and exhausted - I knew there was no way we’d make it around World Showcase, but I thought we’d at least try to get lunch in France. We ate at the Boulangerie Patisserie - so good!!

After lunch, I felt better and we decided to at least try to make it to America. We just walked past the countries in between, although the character bus was out so I stopped to take some pictures of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Pluto. We finally made it to America for the American Adventure – what a great show!! Plus, with air- conditioning and chairs, what’s not to like?!

After the show, however, we were DONE with Epcot! We made our way back to England to exit through the World Showcase (stopping at the World Traveler shop for a magnet and postcards).

Epcot - Future World

We took a boat to Epcot and entered through the International Gateway. We rushed to The Land Pavilion and got in line for Soarin', which makes you feel like you are flying over California (complete with smell and wind). The ride was amazing, although too short! Living with the Land was a waste of 30 minutes - a boat ride through the evolution of farming, including a steaming greenhouse... boring!! The Spaceship Earth ride was a walk-on and kind-of interesting. We then hiked over to Test Track, my other must-do. The sign said that there was a 40-minute wait, but I dismissed that since we hadn’t had to wait anywhere near what signs had said on other rides. Big mistake! The line stalled twice, and we definitely waited longer than 40 minutes. The waiting area is so LOUD – all the music and car noises – and it’s a repetitive beat. Not pleasant at all. Then just when you think you are boarding… you’re in another waiting area. FINALLY, we boarded (front row) and held on for dear life! It was rough and fast, but really fun!!
