Downtown Disney

Basically, you haven't been everywhere in Disney if you haven't been to Downtown Disney. Especially you adults, Pleasure Island is awaiting. so if you haven't, you must go back, because there isn't a full Disney trip with a thing not seen. And this, trust me, will be a thing not forgotten.

Now downtown Disney isn't one of the 4 kingdoms, and if you say it is Shame on You. It is simply a place where you can go and collect all your memories and put them into place. Downtown Disney contains shops, Legoland, hidden Mickeys, parades, and Rainforest Cafe. (You can read more about Rainforest Cafe in my other review.) When you go collect your souvenirs from the World of Disney Store, which has the Princess room, Adventure Room, and the Biddidi Biddidi Boutique, try saying that five times fast...anyways BBB is where all the little girls go to feel like a princess: Mainly Cinderella. They have crowns, makeup, outfits, etc. The World of Disney Store is a great place to collect your Disney souvenirs and trust me, you will be bringing home more in you suitcases than what you came with.

For Dining experiences, this and Epcot are one of a kind. Like Animal Kingdom, Rainforest Cafe' is also held in Downtown Disney. So read about that in my other review. Also Animal Kingdom can be read about in my other review. So back to the dining, you have Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant which is GREAT! Especially if you like shepherds pie. YUM! There are other places like Planet Hollywood, which is a must to eat at! You have the house of blues, Captain Jack restaurant, and a bunch more!

Though you haven't seen anything if you (adults ) haven't been to Pleasure Island. It is filled with a lot of fun. Just look at the most fun for adults section at the top and pull down to see more info.

Though do me a favor please and go to Downtown Disney, you never know what magic it will bring.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Downtown Disney. Needless to say they have some great Disney souvenir shops. We got most of our gifts for family there. Though $10 for hot chocolate is pretty steep. My favorite shop was Basin. Nothing like a shop with soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc.

The smell in there is just fantastic. The Team Mickey Sports shop is a good one too. Lots of Disney stuff and some regular sports stuff, too. Lastly, the setting is wonderful. Water, hotels, restaurants, etc., I really had a nice afternoon.

Our 2-year-old granddaughter had never been to Disney World and her mom and dad felt she was a little young to enjoy the parks so we walked through Downtown Disney. She had a great time at the Lego Store and walking through the huge Disney Toy Store. She also enjoyed going into the gift shops at Rainforest Café and Cirque du Soleil. There were lots of fun things to see. Our granddaughter did not want to do it, but there is a carousel and a train for a small fee. She also loved the bus ride to the Contemporary and a spin on the Monorail before dinner - no cost to any of them (except the stuffed animal in the toy store)

The great thing about Downtown Disney is that the shops are open until 11pm. There is a magnificent Disney shop that specializes in the Disney stuff one can find in the parks, such as shirts, cups, golf balls, costumes... I love the fact that it lets you do your shopping outside of the parks, and therefore it leaves time open to visit the attractions. There is a Ghirardelli's Ice Cream shop that is a must that offers world-class ice cream and candy. There is also a Lego Store with some unbelievable creations made out of Legos. A Disney Christmas Shop always finds a way to place a smile on my wife's face. There is also a Disney Kiddy Store and a Disney Sports Store, too. As I mentioned, you can do all your shopping after the parks close. Downtown Disney also houses the night clubs, but those never did interest me. Downtown Disney is easy to find, too. It's just a few minutes off Highway 4.

Downtown Disney

We traveled as a group of six with two 40-somethings, one senior adult, and three children: ten, eight, and five years old. Downtown Disney is a great place shop. The Disney stores are huge and practically anything Disney item you could want is in one place. Some of the other stores are fantastic to visit.

The memorabilia store is very interesting. It contains photos and memorabilia signed by famous folk such as John F. Kennedy, Paul McCartney, and other sports, musical, or political heroes. While we couldn’t afford to take anything home—items can be as low as $1,000 and up to $40,000 or more—it was great fun to look and see these items. Our ten-year-old loved it.

The Virgin Megastore is worth the time and a great place to simply browse if you love music.

Pleasure Island celebrates New Years Eve every night. We stopped by Pleasure Island at the end of our Disney Day. We watched the last showing of "Fantasmic" at MGM and arrived at Pleasure Island about 11:30—plenty of time to find a place to watch the fireworks at midnight. These capped off our Disney day experience just perfectly and sent us home to a restful sleep.

This is a fun late-evening option for anyone. If you are so inclined, you could stay for the party atmosphere. It felt as if about half the people stayed and went clubbing and the other half including us left immediately after the fireworks.

While Pleasure Island is an adult atmosphere and alcoholic beverages are sold, we did not see anything that we were concerned that our young children would see. In fact, the alcohol issue was much bigger at Sea World than at this more bar-like atmosphere.

My wife and I returned to Pleasure Island on Saturday night to experience the club atmosphere and catch the midnight fireworks. The Saturday night fireworks were much more elaborate than the week-night ones and would be a great free substitution for the Magic Kingdom fireworks and you could avoid standing in those painfully long after-fireworks lines.

Pleasure Island/Downtown Disney is a great area to visit and I highly recommend it.
