Amsterdam actually has more canals than Venice, so there are lots of bridges, nearly 1,300, but since the city is shaped like a horseshoe, they rarely line up. For the most part, it is fun walking around looking at the bridges.
There is one popular spot where nine major bridges line up. After the long walk, it was disappointing to realize that they can actually only be seen clearly from underneath, like from a boat.
Magere Brug, or the skinny bridge, was another let down. The original bridge was so narrow that two people could not pass each other, but it was replaced in 1871 AD. At night it is illuminated with thousands of tiny lights, which is supposed to make it special, but during the day, it's just another drawbridge spanning the Amstel.
