Description: Who doesn’t love to go to a zoo? It’s always a fun trip and I love to see the animals. When we stayed in Dresden we simply had to visit the zoo here. When we visited the city of Dresden we had of course done a lot of cultural activities and of course also we had time for some shopping and to visit the zoo! I always like the zoo and it’s just a fun way to spend a whole day wondering around. You can defiantly spend a day in Dresden and certainly when you visit with children. There is much to see! The entrance fee was around 15 euro’s which isn’t cheap but it’s a normal price. I can imagine that when going with a family it will be quite expensive.
At the entrance you get a free map of the zoo with all areas so you know where you need to be there and mostly to see that you have seen everything. The zoo is big so you really need the map and we got often almost lost finding a certain area. They have a large selection of animals and are really from all over the world.
Of course you have the elephants and i think the area was just built new because it was enormous. I was really amazed how big it was. The elephants had a lot of space to walk around. You as the visitor are standing on a higher platform, almost on a hill giving you a clear view of the area. There is also an inside area but the elephants where all outside. There are a lot more animals like tigers, rhinos, hippos, penguins and birds. You can imagine that with the popular animals it was quite busy but we still had plenty of opportunity to have a closely look.
The zoo is clearly a well-kept zoo and where they care about the animals because the living spaces of the animals where all large and well taken care of. Inside you have the more tropical area of exotic birds and of course the snakes but also the alligators! Quite scary to see and with wooden walkways you walk over them so again you have a pretty good view. Especially the spiders were scary to see!
When walking around you will see a lot of benches and bins and there was also a lot of staff walking around to keep everything neat. They also were there to answer any question and to assist. On the map you can also clearly see that there are few opportunities for you to eat and drink. We had some chips and bratwurst and i can’t remember the prices anymore but I think they were reasonable enough.
I don’t think we have spent actually the whole day here but i think the whole afternoon and I think it’s one of the best zoo’s we have seen. You get a good view at the animals and everything looked well care for. The animals are not in small cages but can wonder around. 14 euro’s might seem a lot but I think its money well spent. Five star for this attraction!
