Best of IgoUgo For years it had been my dream to visit the Acropolis in Greece. Like many people before me, this monument seemed to symbolize the strength and endurance of history. To walk where ancient Greeks like Aristotle ambled so many centuries earlier was ...Read more

Best of IgoUgo We had arrived by cruise ship at the port of Pireas and since the port is a reasonable distance from the city of Athens we took a tour bus in and around as we only had one day. First impressions were of a huge, very built up city which was very ...Read more

Hiking up to the top of the Acropolis seems, at first glance, a daunting task, but the climb was actually pretty gradual. While the Parthenon is indeed impressive, my favorite structure on the Acropolis was the Porch of the Karyatids, sometimes ...Read more

Best of IgoUgo If you're visiting Athens, there is no doubt that you'll be popping round the Acropolis which is the city's most popular sight. Built long before A.D., the Acropolis of Athens is made up of several notable sights with the Parthenon being its most ...Read more

Best of IgoUgo If ever there was a tourist trap that was hardest to get to, I think the Acropolis may win hands down. For the faintest travelers, you can take a cab to the base (but Acropolis taxis are more expensive than the regular ones), but even so, you’ve got ...Read more

Best of IgoUgo Lindos’ most dramatic feature is, of course the impressive Acropolis that dominates and casts a shadow over the town. The Acropolis, according to Greek mythology was built in pre-Hellenic days as a home for Athena Lindia, but the archaeological ...Read more

First off, admission fees to many tourist attractions/historical sites in Athens are cheap, usually about 4-5 euro per person.I'd imagine that most tourists to Athens will make the trip to the Acropolis and the Parthenon, since they are the main ...Read more

The Acropolis is probably one of the best (and only?) reasons to visit Athens. Although the monuments on top are beautiful, most are under construction to be renovated. Aside from the various scaffolding, the Acropolis is easily a full day trip.

Best of IgoUgo Of course when one goes to Athens, the first place they're going to seek out is the Acropolis! It is absolutely amazing to be there and if you can, you definitely want to go more than once. The best time to go is as early and late as you can go. ...Read more

Best of IgoUgo The Acropolis is located in Athens, Greece, high above the ancient city, although you can have trouble trying to find it...that is, if you are walking by foot. Out of all of the Plaka, Monstriki, and Syntagma squares, I saw maybe two signs leading ...Read more
