Description
This festival has been celebrated in Sapporo for just over ten years, but it has become one of the most vibrant occasions in the city. More than 330 teams and over 34,000 dancers participate before almost two million spectators. The festival is a fusion of the Yosakoi Festival of Kochi and traditional soran folk music of Hokkaido. The dance teams all wear original costumes and dance to the rhythm set by a naruko (a clapper). The festival takes place simultaneously in multiple venues throughout the city, so check with Tourist Information for the most appropriate place to see the festival.
