Description
This day is in memory of all Israel's fallen soldiers and victims of war and terrorism. Since the country's inception in 1948, it has been in an almost constant state of war. Most Israelis know someone who has lost a life. Memorials are held in neighborhood ceremonies and public places both on the eve of, and the following morning. At night there is a mass memorial ceremony and many places are closed. Yom Hazikaron is marked by a siren and a silence when everyone stops to stand at attention.
