Wonthaggi State Coal Mine

Description

Venture deep underground in what was, until 1968, a working coal mine. This attraction exposes the tough, and sometimes dangerous, conditions of the men who worked in the mines. Former miners guide the tours. In addition to a theatr and museum, visitors can meet Cobber the pit pony, before heading underground. Tours last for about an hour, and lead through the dank tunnels far beneath the earth where once hundreds of men worked every day. Not for the claustrophobic! Admission: Adults AUD6; pensioners and children AUD4; family pass (two adults and four children) AUD15.
