Description: Also known as the Wailing Wall or the Wall of Lamentation, the Western Wall is a remnant of the ancient Temple retaining wall, and a holy site for Jews who flock here to mourn the destruction of the temple by the Romans in 70AD. Visitors to the wall often write prayers on small scraps of paper and stuff them in the cracks of the wall – a practice thought to bring special blessings. Under Israeli control since 1967, this holy site is a popular spot for believers and non-believers alike.
