Walnut Canyon National Monument

Description

Descend into the canyon and explore cliff dwellings abandoned by the ancient Anasazi. Explore 25 rooms with full access. View painted walls and smoke stained roofs from a people who vanished 700 years ago. During summer, park Rangers lead small groups on hikes to restricted-access areas to explore even more fascinating ruins. The hike out of the canyon can be pretty strenuous, so be prepared.

Entrance fee is $3 per person (cash only); children 16 and under are admitted free. The canyon is located east of Flagstaff; Interstate-40 to exit 205, then south three miles.
