The coastal walk from the ferry port at Waiheke to Blackpool beach, via Church Bay, is breath-taking. The views of the islands, and Auckland city, are superb, as the ground is raised. The walk cuts through meadows and bushland, before running through a stretch of woodland. The shelter of the woodland is a relief after the hot sun (Waiheke claims to be a few degrees hotter than mainland Auckland). The sounds and smells of the woodland are beautiful - the constant buzz of crickets and birds, and the smell of fragrant flowers and ferns. I would say this is a great tramp to start to acclimatise to New Zealand, as it is short and varied. The only word of warning is though mostly well sign-posted, sometimes it's not clear which route to take at a junction - so allow extra time for the odd unexpected detour..
