Virgin of Guadalupe Festival

Description

This annual celebration honors Mexico's most significant religious symbol, the Virgin of Guadalupe. The story of this celebration dates back to 1531 when the Virgin reportedly spoke with an Indian peasant. Acapulco has citywide celebrations December 11-12. The festivities include street parties, carnival rides, contemporary and folk music concerts, dancing and parties. December 12 is recognized as a time of feasting, and many local restaurants will offer buffet meals. Tourists are welcome to join in the revelry. Call for more information. Free admission.
