Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

Situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain in the heart of Cape Town's working harbour, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is more than just a mere mall, it has become South Africa's most visited destination.

Set against a backdrop of magnificent sea and mountain views, exciting shopping and entertainment venues are intermingled with imaginative office locations, world-class hotels and luxury apartments in the residential marina.

Whether it is Balducci's you savor, or a taste of home in KFC, there are 15 fastfood or takeaway spots and over 35 restaurants, and there is bound to be something to satiate your appetite.

Do stop to have a look at the seals. There are also several cruise lines that operate day trips out of the working harbour, or take a water taxi.

Check out the website to see what events are going on at the waterfront, or to make online reservations go to: .

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

For visitors to Cape Town the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is the focus, an intermingling of its historic and useful past and modern developments aimed particularly at the increasing hordes of tourists. Fishing boats contrast with busking entertainers, tugboats with trendy restored warehouses, seals lolling on the jetty with bustling crowds, glitzy restaurants with construction cranes towering overhead. Dominating the backdrop is the domineering Table Mountain, its spectacular flat top often shrouded in hovering clouds.

A great area for wandering and shopping, the Waterfront area is also home to a plethora of restaurants and cafes many featuring local seafood on the menus. Many have verandahs which look out over the water. No matter whether it is breakfast or a late night romantic dinner there is a suitable eating place. Try Planet Hollywood, the Aquarium, a boat cruise or take a trip to Robben Island. Otherwise eat, drink and be happy.

Victoria and Alfred Waterfront

Shopping is incredible for those of us with foreign currency. All sorts of things including many US and Europeon brands at very competitive prices. The design of this shopping center is lovely. A vast improvement over the old warehouses that occupied this site for decades if not centuries.

Endless numbers, kinds and prices of restaurants. Fast food to fine dining.
A least one grocery store (in Woolworth''s department store) and several commercial money changers. Also a place to begin the process of getting your VAT refund.

Beautiful views of the harbour and Table Mountain.

At least 5 one-hour photo places which some members of our group used often. Several ATMs. Service was prompt and cordial in all the shops. We were never rushed along even in fast food places. A popular destination for tourists and local residents as there is always something going on. Do not pass up the chance to take a boat tour around the harbour.
A five minute walk from the Cape Grace Hotel. Attached to the Table Mountain Hotel.

Waterfront

This new district is one of the top attractions of Cape Town. Built in the early 1990's in the place of the old docks, it is now a huge commercial mall including restaurants, pubs, a hotel and tourist shops. Its architecture resembles the Victorian style and makes a lovely landscape between the sea and the Table Mountain. In the evening it is a good place for entertainment, pubs and clubs are open even late at night. You can park your car in the large parking just in front of the Victoria Hall. Sometimes the Waterfront looks like Disney World, it is so new and clean! However the harbour is still active for small or medium ships like tugboats, or the destroyers and sailors that still inhabit the place.
An other point of interest is the aquarium where you could spot powerful species of fishes such as the great white shark or the elegant manta ray.
