Description
January is high summer in Peru, and the towns of Chincha and El Carmen celebrate the season with their Black Summer Festival. Known as party towns throughout the year, and as centers for Afro-Peruvian heritage, these coastal communities go all out for this yearly festival celebrating Afro-Peruvian culture. Expect a variety of folkloric celebrations throughout the towns' night clubs and in street parties day and night. This festival is a great opportunity to see the best of Afro-Peruvian music and dances like the lando, the alcatraz, and the festejo in a carnival-like atmosphere.
