Es Vedrá

Es Vedrá is one of the most interesting daytrips you can make while staying in Sant Antoni. Three kilometers offshore, at the popular southern beach of Cala d’Hort is the intriguing Es Vedrá rock, where in times of hunger, locals would go to gather seagull eggs. A Carmelite priest once recorded mystical revelations and meetings with "unearthly beings surrounded by light” while meditating on the island. Gigantic circles of light, up to 50m in diameter, have allegedly emerged from the sea at times. It is said that a strong magnetic force emanating from Es Vedrá attracts such strange phenomena.

Today in Cala d’Hort you will find the most beguiling beach in the Balearics and three good, moderately priced seafood restaurants. What really sets the beach apart are the mesmeric vistas of Es Vedrá, a canine tooth of rock stabbing through the bay. The jagged, 378-metre high islet starred in the film South Pacific as mysterious island of Bali Hai.
