Rhythms of the Night

Vallarta-Adventures takes you by boat to a secluded beach called Callettas Beach (Skeleton Beach). The beach is decorated with Aztec artifacts, and lit by torches and candles. It's absolutely beautiful. After strolling the grounds, you're treated to an excellent dinner and given time to stroll on the beach or rest in a hammock, then you're treated to a modern dance interpretation of an ancient Aztec myth. The performance was outstanding. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera!

Sierra Madre Expedition

Sierra Madre Expedition

We rode in the back of these Mercedez Benz military vehicles. The guides were informative and entertaining.

Our first stop is the small town of San Jose, where we were given an extensive tour. We saw their main square, church, a tortilla factory, houses, and the cemetery.

We then went to a Mexican ranch, where we were shown how people live off the land. Our guide pointed out plants, cooking methods, and culture of the people in the area. We were treated to homemade tortillas and a variety of Mexican candies and fruits.

Then they took us to the jungle, where we were shown the navite plants, trees, and wildlife.

Finally, we were taken to San Francisco, which had a beautiful beach. We were treated to a delicious lunch there and had time to hang out a little bit.

On our way back, our guide led our group in a series of drinking games. Pay close attention to the guide's presentation because or you'll find yourself downing lots of shots of tequilla.

Four-Day Dive Package

Four-Day Dive Package

Our dive package included four two-tank dives. Two sites were near the Marietta Islands, one was at Corbetena, and one was a twilight and night dive at Los Arcos.

The visibility ranged between 30 and 70 feet depending on the ever-changing weather. Water temperature for most dives was just above 80 degrees.

We encountered huge manta rays at Marietta Islands and Corbetena Island. We also saw a seahorse, octopus, tons of eels, and more.

For the trips to the Marietta Islands, we went out on the snorkel/kayak boat with lots of other people and a party atmosphere. Once there, we departed on a smaller boat with our divemaster. Upon our return, we were treated to lunch and margaritas. During the other trips, we simply went out on a smaller boat. Lunch was included on all day dives.

Most of our dives were OUTSTANDING, but I hear that diving in Puerto Vallarta isn't consistently good.

Canopy Tours Las Juntas y Los Veranos

Canopy Tours Las Juntas y Los Veranos

Basically it is a zipline tour through the jungle's canopy. You do a little hiking in a few places and the guides give you a brief explaination of the Mexican jungle's plants. Don't be alarmed, you do not need to have upper body stength since you are sitting in the harness. You speed from one tree to the next on a cable and pulley system. They make you feel very safe and it loads of fun.

You can check this out or make a reservation at this website. There are two canopy companies, I do not know anything about the competiton.

Rythms of the Night

The crusie left from the marina at 6pm and we had about an hour's ride on a Catamaran to the beach at Las Caletas. The boat had an open bar for soft drinks, beer, and rum punch, and the staff was very attentive. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the ocean that seemed to linger in a slow farewell. Just at dusk, four or five dolphins appeared and raced our boat for awhile until we lost sight of them in the dark. The crew also put on a little entertainment that kept us amused until we pulled into the beach after dark.

Las Caletas is a very extensive area and it was only lit by torch and candlelight--it was spectacular approaching it from the ocean. The meal was served buffet style and you had several selections to choose from--salad, vegetables, meat . . . chicken, beef, and fish (including mahi-mahi, my favorite). There was a selection of desserts and Mexican coffee for afterwards. The Mexican coffee was delicious . . . very similar to Spanish coffee but it had Kahlua instead.

After the meal, we moved over to an open auditorium area where they put on a show featuring some of the originial native legends. The gods created them and gave them corn/maize and guided them. It was very well done and the effects were quite nice.

After the show, we had some more coffee and wandered around a bit before boarding the boat to take us back to the marina. The ride back featured some more entertainment and then they opened up the fore-deck and played romantic music so we could dance under the stars/moon.

All in all, this was an excellant excursion and I would definitely recommend it.
