Underwater World

It’s a bit touristy, like most aquariums, but I have an interest in ocean species and lots of spare time, so we went. Overall, the aquarium is a pretty nice exhibit. They have a wide selection of local marine animals, including fairly large sharks and sea turtles. It's fully air-conditioned and can be a cool respite on a hot day. The kids who were there really seemed to enjoy the experience, so it would be great for families. It also looks to be handicapped-accessible and might be good for people who can't experience snorkeling or diving firsthand.

There is a wide variety of displays, including a long tunnel through a tank. You will have fish swimming above you and on both sides. This area seemed to be a favorite for the kids. The tanks appear to be well-maintained and the fish healthy.

Overall, it’s a good place, but not a must-see. I would recommend it for families and people who are limited in physical ability. It's also good for others who have lots of time to spare.

Underwater World

Billed as the largest aquarium in Southeast Asia, this aquarium has a huge array of fish on display and is well worth a visit. It has many species of fish that I have never seen before, including some fish that are so large, it is hard to believe it is possible.

There is also a large walk-under tank where various types of sharks and stingrays drift overhead oblivious to all the faces watching them. The marine section with numerous tanks featuring corals and marine fish is really interesting. There are some really large and colourful corals such as various leather corals, jardinis, and lots of different "mushrooms" and anemones. Of course, what reef section would be complete without the perennial favourite, Nemo the Clownfish? My personal favourites were the pipefish (related to the seahorse) and this tiny little shrimp (pictured below).

There are plans to build a snow section complete with penguins, but at this stage, it has not even been started.

There is also a large duty-free shop attached that has a large array of goods such as luggage, alcohol, clothing, and toiletries at quite reasonable prices. Certainly, the prices are a lot cheaper than what we would pay at home.

Underwater World is recommended to visit and worth the entry fee alone to escape out of the heat into the air-conditioning for a short while.
