What a great place.....With almost every tourist in town eventually making it to the Tower....make the most of visiting either in the morning or in the later part of the day....
With the great views of Tower Bridge as well, make sure you take time to create some of those wonderful pictures that are available even to the snapshooter in the group.
Remember to include people in your pictures for scale, and to have a great memory after you return home and you want to revisit this great historical place from history.
When I visit the Tower, I take time and take the tour every time, it makes for great pics of the Beefeaters that give the tour, great color and great images of the tourism part of the Tower..I also take the time to walk the perimeter tour and use that great elevated platform to make really nice images of Tower Bridge or pics of the interior of the Tower itself.
If you haven't been to the Tower in awhile, the small snack bar has been relocated over near the Fusillers Museum and features a very nice place to sit and regroup and a nice place to relax.
I had a wonderful experience the last time I visited, a father and young son were apparently visiting for the first time, and the 3-4 year old had a great time with the Guard outside the Jewel Tower, and please refer to the pics included with this entry. It was very nice seeing the guard through the young child's eyes....it gathered quite a group of people watching this unique experience.

Red costumed beefeaters dramatically recount the atroscities committed here with flourish. They share the curse of the ravens which hover around the property. You are shown the torturous instruments and cells that seem haunted by their history. It is a highlight. You can easily imagine the heads speared on poles as warning to any others who might buck the system.

This is a must for all first time visitors to London. The sense of history, the location on the Thames, the Beefeaters in their red uniforms, the Jewel Tower, all make for a delightful few hours. On my last visit, December 2000, the special exhibit in St. James Chapel was the Domesday Book, something I've read about and heard about for years. It may sound silly, but it was quite exciting to actually SEE it. William the Conqueror made a list of every person, piece of property, cow, pig, duck and chicken in England in 1066. It is a fascinating inventory. You can see the 'graffiti' carved in the stone walls of the Beauchamp Tower, or the rooms where Sir Walter Raleigh was imprisioned, or the chopping block where so many lost their heads, or the changing of the guards at the Jewel Tower, or the cages of the famous ravens, or the suits of armor in the White Tower, but allow plenty of time ... a full morning or afternoon can be taken up with the Tower.

It was pouring rain but that couldn't stop us! Once you are inside, you can tag along with a Yeoman who will give you a general guided tour or meet at specific times for specific tours. I recommend doing both, if you have the time. The Yeoman are knowledgable and entertaining and you will have the chance to visit the towers and hear their gruesome tales. Once you are done you can head for the Jewel House, which houses the Crown Jewels. You step on a moving sidewalk which slowly moves you by each crown, to stop crowds from building up. It's hard to believe they are real!

To get there, take the underground to the Tower Hill station. Admission is a steep 11 pounds for adults and 5.50 pounds for children. If you have student card, bring it and get in for 8.30 pounds. Pricy but facinating.

People like my Dad, who have a thing for military history, can spend the entire day here. And right across the street (where Tower Bridge is) there is a nice little Haagen Daaz ice cream place that serves the best Bailey's ice cream I have ever tasted. NOTE: Do not ask one of the guides about a Guillotine. ("Guillotines are in FRANCE!!")
