Description
The home of the novelist Leo Tolstoi from 1857 to 1858, where he lived with his brother Sergei and sister Maria and her children. The building on Piatnitskaia Street dates from the early nineteenth century. In this very house Tolstoi would meet other Russian writers such as Ostrovskii, Fet, Saltykov-Schedrin and Aksakov. Of the author's better-known works, The Kazakhs and the short story Three Sisters were written here.
Being a branch of the State Tolstoi Museum, the museum holds thematic exhibitions taken from that museum's funds. There is a permanent exibition entitled The Life and Fate of Tolstoi.
