Toji-in

Description

Close to Ninnaji and Ryoanji, but not so nearly well-known, Toji-in (not to be confused with Toji Temple with its giant pagoda and flea market in the south of the city) contains a pond in the shape of the Chinese character shin, which means 'heart.' Expertly shaped bushes are a feature of this very old temple, established in 1341. A beautiful garden is here for the viewing, too.
