City Market is a small area in Savannah, set aside for small shops, boutiques, and restaurants. LOTS of art by local artists, gourmet candies and sweets.

One shop that we enjoyed is called Natural Wonders, where they drill holes in rough gemstone rocks for tealights. They're beautiful candle holders. They sell many other beautiful, natural things.

There are lots of benches and small tables and chairs under shady trees, creating a romatic and relaxing atmosphere for weary shoppers in the City Market area.

City Market

This is a great place to people watch with its benches, gazebos and sidewalk cafes.

The City Market is a four block area of restored grain elevators that now house souvenir shops, restaurants, art galleries and there is even a candy store. Most visitors end up at the City Market, no matter where they are staying in the city, because this is where the carriage tours depart.

Almost every afternoon and evening, a band can almost always be found playing in the courtyard of the market.

Also on our last trip, we discovered several street musicians, including an opera singer, while we waited to take our evening carriage ride.

As you walk around the historic district, you will pass an antiques store on what seems like every corner. If that's your thing, they are certainly worth looking inside. The City Market is a collection of stores full of art, antiques, etc... that is a good place to go as well. The City Market is on the 'Midnight Book Tour' because Joe Odom, a main character in the book, had opened a piano jazz bar called Sweet Georgia Brown's in that vicinity on W. St. Julian Street.
