3rd Street Promenade

The 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica is just a few blocks from the gorgeous Santa Monica Beach. A pedestrian-only area, the streets have been blocked off so that this really is a shopping-only sector. On either side are shops as far as the eye can see, and lining the middle of the streets are booths selling jewelry, scarves, incense, sunglasses, and lots of other fun things.

Throughout the area you’ll discover unique boutiques: Hanna Hartnell Studio, Hype, Mudra, One, and Pink Ice, with familiar favorites as well: A/X, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Benetton, Fossil, Levi’s, Old Navy, Puma, and Urban Outfitters. And no visit to LA is complete without a trip to Fred Segal’s multiple mini-boutiques.

The area is also used for an outdoor farmers’ market. Enjoy all that California has to offer each Wednesday from 8:30am to 1:30pm and Saturday between 8:30am and 1pm.

3rd St. Promenade

We were able to check our bags and walk around the 3rd St. Promenade. Most of the shops were nothing more than you'd expect at any outdoor shopping mall, only it was more of a social gathering here. Similar to Faneuil Hall in Boston, but without all the fun comedy clubs and musicians. Just a bunch of fake people. I saw an attractive brunette on 4th and Arizona and as she got closer, I realized it was Julia Roberts! She was just gossiping, girl-talking, and window shopping with a blonde friend with straight, shoulder length hair. I was shocked that Julia wasn’t taller, but I confirmed it was her from a lady who says she loves Santa Monica and is always on the streets there. Julia’s hair was very curly and she didn’t even have a bodyguard with her. She was off in her own little world.
