Description: A world-famous fortified complex at the heart of Moscow, the Kremlin has been the seat of power for Russian leaders like Ivan the Great, Ivan the Terrible, Lenin, Stalin, Gorbachev and Yeltsin. Overlooking the Moskva River to the south and the Red Square to the East, the Kremlin includes four palaces, four cathedrals and the enclosing Kremlin Wall, punctuated with its own towers. Built by Italian Masters over the years of 1485-1495, the Kremlin forms an irregular triangle enclosing 68 acres. Cathedral Square is the heart of the Kremlin, surrounded by cathedrals like the 15th century Cathedral of the Dormition, not far from the famed Ivan the Great Bell Tower on the northeast corner of the square, supposedly marking the exact center of Moscow. There are a host of other highlights and attractions within the walls of this massive complex, so be prepared to spend the better part of a day (or more) exploring these grounds.
