Thayer Street is nestled in Providence right along Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. There are numerous restaurants available to tempt all sorts of taste buds. Some "name brand" restaurants you're likely to find are Johnny Rocket's, Coldstone Creamery, Dunkin' Donuts, and Starbucks. However, you can find these in many major cities, go and explore the available menus to find something new.Besides the dining, you are bound to find something at one of their many eclectic shops. There is a wide array of antiques, art available, clothing, and souvenirs (mainly from Brown University). To get to Thayer Street, there are a few routes. If you are coming from the south, the better bet is to take 95 and follow the signs to Brown University/RISD. The exit numbers have recently changed, but there are signs well posted. Get into the right lane when you get close to exit 20 or so. If you are coming from the north, you want to take 95 to exit #27. Take a left at the light. Continue down this street for about 2 miles, do not veer off to the right at the fork. You'll pass Shea and Hope high school (just a few landmarks). Regardless of where you are coming from, parking is limited especially when college is in session. Although any time is a good time to visit, the time where the most people are out and about is primarily towards the weekends.

Right in the middle of Brown University and the RISD (RI School of Design) campuses, there are lots of cool/eclectic shops on Thayer Street. You can find clothes, music, vintage clothes, body piercing etc. Pretty much anything!
There are many good restaurants here too.. Andrea's for greek food, Montana for Texmex, or try Spikes for some really good hotdogs. They've just opened a new restaurant, Johnny Rockets which is really neat. It's a 50's style burger joint. The employees wear those paper hats, and you can get a vanilla coke, or a really good milkshake to go along with your burger!
There's also a movie theater (The Avon), which shows artsy type films, and several good bookstores to browse through (college hill bookstore and the brown university bookstore).
