Description
For those eager to visit a temple from the Ankorian era without the hoards of tourists you will inevitably find at Ankor Wat, Ta Prohm is an easy day trip from Phnom Penh. This overgrown stone temple was built in the 11th century by King Jayavarman VII on the site of a pre-Ankorian Khmer shrine. Also in the area is the Yeay Peau Temple and the Tonle Bati lakefront, a long river beach with vendors selling snacks and refreshments. The road to Ta Prohm is marked by a sign where it crosses Highway 2, 33 kilometers south of Phnom Penh.
