Description
This is the original Steimatsky store, which opened in 1925, and gave birth to Israel's best known book-chain. However, do not expect something on the scale of Barnes and Noble or Borders. Steimatsky's still has a village bookstore feel to it. The premises are small and the stock a little limited.
The English language selection includes maps, travel guides, books about the history and religions of Jerusalem, plus a selection of bestsellers (the average price of a paperback is $14). There is also a stock of English papers and magazines along with souvenir fridge magnets and postcards.
There are three other downtown branches of Steimatsky, one on Ben Yehuda Street, one on King George Street and also in the Clal Building.
