St. Mark's Syrian Orthodox Church

Description

Acts 12:1-16 tells us that the apostle Peter, on being miraculously released from prison, fled to the home of John Mark, and an ancient tradition asserts that this church marks the site. During restoration work in the 1940s, a sixth century Aramaic inscription was discovered attesting to this. The Syrian Orthodox use the Liturgy of St. James and their tradition holds this to be the site of the 'upper room' where Jesus shared his last meal with his disciples.
