Description: The Saint Louis Art Museum stands on a hill overlooking one of the manmade lakes in Forest Park and is the 1904 arts pavillion from the St Louis Exposition.

It is a free museum which is unbelievable considering the depth of their collection. As you cross the impressive lobby you are greeted by one of Degas' ballerina sculptures and it only goes up from there.

The collection includes 3 Van Goghs, one a still life, one a peasant portrait, and one a landscape. There is a marvelous Viger LeBrun painting of her 15 year old brother done when she was only 18 years old. There is a Hudon bust of Benjamin Franklin and also a very lovely bust of Madame Du Barry.
In the decorative arts there is fine American and European furniture and porcelain

as well as Chinese bronzes. There are also galleries of Asian, African and Oceanic art. I have included a few pictures of my favorites.
This is a beautiful museum with a user-friendly design, a small gift shop and a great cafe. Don't miss it! The museum is open daily except on Mondays. Hours are Wed-Sun 10am to 5pm, Tuesday 1:30 to 8:30pm.
