St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church

This is a great church with a great evening song. It's a nice concert. If you can, make time to see one. Plus, you have Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, and National Portrait Gallery all right there. I absolutely loved the Brass Rubbing Center in the basement of the church. They have hundreds of brass cutouts that you can choose from. Then you are given your paper and rubbing crayons of some sort. They range from coats of armor to ladies and knights and are very neat souvenirs of London to frame and look at every day. Also, we ate at the Cafe in the Crypt. It had good meals and desserts at fantastic prices. I had a nice hearty soup, bread, and the bread-and-butter pudding. Yum-o, as Rachel Ray would say. At about 5.50 pounds, it's great deal. Plus, the location is kind of macabre.

St. Martin-in-the fields Church

At the northeastern corner of Trafalgar’s square stands church of St. Martin-in-the fields. The first church on this site was built outside of the city perimeters in the 13th century, between Westminster and the City (hence, "in the fields"). The present building was completed in 1726. The church is famous for its free lunchtime concerts at 13:05 on Monday, Tuesday and Friday,; there are also inexpensive evening concerts.

St. Martin-in-the-fields has a fine café in the roomy crypt accessible via steps on the southern side.

St Martin of the Fields Church Market

This is a pretty unremarkable market especially compared to others.
In the winter this market is much better. there is vendor that sells the most wonderful knit gloves for £6. He also sells scarves and nice woolen hats. I got a nice fleece sweatshirt in Dec 2002. So this market is worth a walk through every now and again. You can have lunch at Cafe In the Crypt at St. Martin''s.

St Martin of the Fields Church

This is one of my favorite churches in the whole world. It's not big or fancy and that is why it's inviting. It feels like your home parish when you attend services there.

We go to London at least 3 times a year and always go to church there. See my review under dining for Cafe in the Crypt.

There is a market here on the side of the church but it is not to good. But take the time to visit the church.
