South Platte Park is a great place to go for a nature fix when you don't have time to go to the mountains. Take one of the unpaved trails and you leave civilization behind. Watch for owls in the Northern Wildlife Area and the east trail.

The South Platte Park and the Carson Nature Center is a great place for a family. The hiking and biking trails are great - running along the river and by several small lakes.

The Carson Center is great fun for all. Excellent displays of wild life and the ecology of the park. There are live animals and wildlife displays that are interesting and informative.

The park was formed after the 1965 flood. There is a "River Table" that demonstrates how rivers and streams shape the land and what happens when it floods. This is great fun for kids. They can spend hours playing with table.
