HOLY COW, what a mountain! There is 8 inches of snow and we are pumped. The mountain is huge and the lines... what lines? You will find some in the morning, and unless you get here right away, you will not find first tracks, but if you hug the trees and stay away from the lifts, you can enjoy this kind of amazing day--powder day. The day after powder day (unless it's a Sunday), go to Brighton, where there are still fresh tracks up to 2 days after. The Bird is a snowboarder's best friend in the back, and head to Mineral Basin early! GO ALL THE WAY right and drop by the trees and you will be given powder lines all day long!

2005-2006 Update

Lift Ticket prices: Tram and Chairs: $62; chairs only $ 51; kids under 12 free with adult ticket; over
65: $49/40; Snowbird + Alta, $69; Beginners-only lift: $15; discounts for half-day and multiple
days. Historically, Smith’s Grocery stores have sold discounted Snowbird tickets.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT If you are planning a Snowbird trip this year, wait until
next year, when the new Peruvian Gulch high-speed quad should be open. Peruvian Gulch, with a
drop of about 2,800 vertical feet, is accessible now only by the tram. To ski many of the runs in the
Peruvian Gulch, you start down a moderately wide, wholly uninteresting run from the tram and turn
right on cat track, and then the fun starts. Next year, Snowbird plans to have a new high-speed
quad in place that will go from the current base of the Peruvian chair to the top of Chip’s Run--the place where "skiing the tram" really begins for all but super experts who can handle the chutes
(with access to Mineral Basin as well). Since chair tickets cost less than tram tickets, and since
taking the tram can mean standing for early an hour without skiing, I’d wait for the promise of
shorter lines and the chance to sit for a bit.

On the other hand, Snowbird is part of the Salt Lake Super pass, sold as part of a room package
in Salt Lake City and good for Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude and Salt Lake City’s public
transit system, which includes city buses that go to all four ski resorts and to the airport.
