This church was started in 1630 for the city recovery from plague and is called Salute because of that, since Salute means health, salvation. It took its architect, Baldassare Longhena, all his life to build it and it was finished in 1687, 5 years after his death. This is a very large Baroque church built at a great location where Grand Canal merges with St. Mark’s Basin. The church really shocks you with its size and grandeur but also with how light and bright everything is inspite of its size. It has magnificent floor patterns and a huge altar. The best thing about it are its chapels that have major paintings by Titian, Tintoretto and several other painters of that time. The church is made of white stone and it can be seen from any point of the city. The best pictures of the church come out if you can take them from the vaporetto as you are approaching it. The church is well lit during daytime and you are allowed to take pictures of the paintings inside. You can walk from Galleria Academia to Salute or you can take vaporetto # 1 to the stop at the stairs of the church.

Average Rating: 6.3, Estimated time to a lot: 30 minutes to see the church more for the walk

This is the church that is so beautiful from the canal, with its shiny dome that you can see from so many places in Venice. The outside, in my opinion, is its best attribute. Oh, and the walk that you must take to get here from other parts of the island is fantastic. There are so many bridges and back streets to enjoy. The inside of the church was about average, maybe a little above average. When we talked about it, we all agreed that the walk and the view from the church steps were the best part of this little venture.
