The Barras

This lively flea market is a slice of working class Glasgow and has been around for close to 100 years. It's very much still crowded with locals who are looking for a bargain and tourists who are just looking. The name comes from the market's beginnings when vendors sold their goods out of wheel barrows. This isn't really the place to go for quality souvenirs, rather an interesting spot to look for "one man's junk, another man's treasure". Stalls sell new and nearly new and pretty darn old "stuff" - just about anything you can think of and some things you'd rather not. We found good bargains on synthetic lace curtains and tablecloths and metal tea pots that keep the water hot longer which contributes to a good cup of "char" as the locals call tea. The Barras can be noisy and hectic and you'll probably find something you don't need but can't live without, until you get it home and wonder what to DO with it but that's what a flea market is all about.

The market is located across from the Peoples' Palace and open only Saturday and Sunday.
