San Diego Zoo

I really don't understand why this zoo is such a big deal? I didn't think it was all that great at all. For one thing, all the exhibits are too far apart and there are a lot of hills to walk up. If you have a stroller or wheelchair, you have to walk even farther, as you can't use the escalators or stairs. Many of the exhibits were at the end of a long dead end, so you have to do a lot of back tracking. The exhibits themselves were very nice, but nothing spectacular. We have pretty much the same animals here at the Woodland Park Zoo, and ours is a lot easier to navigate.

I wish we had either gone to SeaWorld again or to the Wild Animal Park instead. It was basically a waste of a day. I don't recommend going there at all; save your energy for something better!

San Diego Zoo is a must-visit when you are in San Diego. The pure size of the park is reason enough. We started the day early and were able to find easy, close parking.

The panda viewing was the hot ticket of this day, so we saved that for last. My wife was especially interested in the Komodo dragon and the sheer size, up-close, is larger than I thought. Along with the animals, I coaxed my wife into riding the cable cars, which take you from one side of the park to the other at a very high altitude. She was not too thrilled about it but enjoyed it nonetheless.

The park caters to both adults and families alike, with children’s learning areas, games, and rides, along with the wonderful world we all expect from a zoo – animals, and so many of them.

My fiancé didn't like zoos before we visited the San Diego Zoo—in fact, she was reluctant to visit this zoo with me despite its famous reputation. She left with a completely different opinion.

The San Diego Zoo offers fun for all ages because I can't think of any animal or exhibit they do not feature. It was a lot of exercise walking up and down the hilly terrain, but sightseeing buses and a Skyride are also available and included in some admission packages. I don't think I have to go into great detail about the animals we saw, as they had virtually everything under the sun. The one thing that we did not get to see because of construction was the tiger exhibit, which disappointed me, but this did not ruin the experience at all.

The highlights: seeing a very young panda cub, which we learned was a rare sight in the United States; the polar bear exhibit; and the gorillas, because we saw the male rise from a sitting position to standing on his hind legs while he was less than 10 feet from the viewing glass... he must have been 9 feet tall!!

I had been to the zoo when I was eight years old. It has gotten very big and has way more animals. My favorites are the pandas, Tasmanian devils, and the giant Galapagos tortoises. You need some good walking shoes. It is a lot to see, but if you start in the morning, you can usually get it all in.

We found this zoo to be quite similar to the Busch Gardens experience in Tampa, FL, yet Busch Gardens is more spread out and flat. Due to the hilly terrain of California, we found San Diego Zoo to be much more interesting from a topograhy aspect. We had a full event all day ticket and took advantage of all the transportation features. Don't miss the Koalas and the Panda bears. It was well worth the wait in line.
