Description
This imposing museum is of particular interest for its recreation of a typical northern street at the turn of the century - complete with local pub, chemist's shop, Victorian parlour and worker's cottage. It also houses a comprehensive local history library.
The gallery on the same site is the home of an important collection of paintings and drawings by L S Lowry, with many of the works on permanent show. There is also a Victorian gallery, which includes examples of painting, pottery and fine furniture. Other facilities include a café, gift shop and free on-site parking.
