Description
The Sakai City Museum, opened in 1980 in Daisen Park, showcases materials reflecting the archaeological background, history, art, industry and various other aspects of Sakai. A particularly attractive feature is a section presenting Sakai in feudal and early modern times when the city was a prosperous commercial center. Among the exhibits are a model of a tradesman's house and a Namban folding screen depicting the manners and customs of Westerners and Namban lacquerware. The museum also exhibits a collection related to Yosano Akiko (1878-1942), a famous Tanka poet born in Sakai.
