Description

This often overlooked or unknown temple was a former Jingo-ji sub-temple. Vestiges of its former status are its statues--one is of the Fudo Myo bodhisattva and two are important cultural properties: a Kannon with 1,000 arms and a Shaka Nyorai. They are located in the main hall, dating to the 12th century.

Bridge enthusiasts will note the ubiquitous vermilion Shigetsubashi and nature lovers will understand that while Saimyo-ji's autumn leaves are an attraction, there is a magnificent Chinese black pine (15th century) which hovers near the entrance--to be admired at any time year-round.
