Description
Within a short walk from the metro station, this market located in the park around the Gorbunov House of Culture is very popular with both Russians and foreigners.
You can buy any computer CD-ROM, any CD, any DVD and any video film here, as long as you're not too bothered about copyright infringement. The prices are generally very cheap. A pirate CD-ROM with computer software or games costs around 80R ($3), a CD – also around 80R($3), a video film – around 150R ($6), regardless of whether it is translated into Russian or has only the original language. Pirate copies account for more than ninety per cent of the CD-ROMs on sale, and more than half of them are translated in the Russian language.
In translated games and movies, characters often speak Russian with a distinct Ukrainian accent, which betrays the origin of the pirate copy.
They also sell a lot of audio and video hardware, including DVD players. Prices are generally ten per cent lower than in Moscow shops, and skilful bargaining could net another ten percent discount.
