Description: The Roman Baths is basically a site of historical interest in the old traditional English city of Bath. The house is a well-preserved Roman site to tour and still has warm water 1000's of years later and still has a separate area for public bathing. The Roman Baths themselves are below the modern street level.
With an area steeped in history, you cannot pass up a chance to visit this world heritage site, especially when it is located in the centre of Bath only a short work from the train/bus stations. Imagine walking into a place where the Roman diplomats, generals and leaders used frequently for their steaming hot springs to relax them in a time of war. You can combine this magical and historical trip by combining the day with a trip to Stonehenge (which is only an hour away)
The admission price is 14 quid and comes with an audio guide that you can control at your own pace (Locals can gain admission for free with a Somerset citizen card). If you decide you just want to come here to take beautiful pictures and gain impressionable views and sites, you can certainly do that; but to fully understand and be in aware of how the structure came to be built and how natural spring water comes into the "Sacred Spring", (hot water at a temperature of 46°C rises here at the rate of 240,000 gallons every day) listen to the audio guide as well as the projected images with real people on how they use to live and act in this site peruse the models that are on exhibit at the museum. The ruins itself is wonderfully preserved You can still see the carvings/statues; as well as a famous Roman sign (I wont say anymore but there is a mini cinema around it that documents its importance); The statues being are of old Important Roman people which still stand with little damage. There is also a fancy (overpriced) restaurant called the Pump Room adjacent to the baths where you can dine after exploring the grounds we did not go there to review but it looked like a 6* very posh Old Fashioned English restaurant.
Also 5 minutes walk away are the modern baths, theres 1 inside and one outside surrounded by this great ancient architecture to add to the refreshing atmosphere there, it is a little pricey but well worth it and they provide everything you need, a great way to relax after the tour. It can get busy also, so maybe pre-booking before you enter the Roman site is recommended, also being there in the evening is even more mezmorising. There are also a selection of massages in the Spa as well as a restaurant, some packages however include refreshments.
Whatever you do, don't skip out on the gift shop! I purchased some clotted cream fudge bars for 2 pounds, they also sell many unique artifacts, jewelry, books and other gifts.
