Description
On Tel Aviv's doorstep, the town of Rishon Le Zion ('first of Zion') remains significant because of the pioneering role it played in the early Zionist movement. This role is well-preserved, with the town museum depicting its history right up to the present day, and the town hall dating from 1888 is worth a visit. Rishon's central role in Israeli wine production is emphasised by the excellent Carmel winery which offers tours (and tasting, of course!). A pleasant selection of quiet cafés and restaurants inside the centre makes a pleasant change from the other venues of Tel Aviv.
