Sightseeing in Bangkok

From the popular Kao San Road in Banglamphu many of the principal sights of Bangkok are within easy walking distance:

1) Grand Palace and Wat Po: The quintessentially Thai architecture of the Grand Palace and the adjoining Wat Po with their fantastic arrays of glittering, golden spires, stupas and prangs ensure they are a mandatory first stop on any first-time visit to Krung Thep.

2) Wat Arun ( The Temple of Dawn ): only a short distance away on the far side of the Chao Phraya River ( crossed by a 1 Baht ferry ride ) rises the charismatic spire of Wat Arun. Previously it was possible to climb the almost vertical staircases to the upper terracing for a superb view over Bangkok but now access has been restricted to the lower terracing only.

3) Golden Mount ( Wat Saket ): Only a short walk from Kao San Road (but an exhausting climb to the top balcony ) gains another fine outlook over the Bangkok skyline.

4) Marble Temple ( Wat Benchamabophit ): A slightly longer walk is required to inspect this magnificent edifice. On the way back you might care to visit the Thai Boxing Stadium.

5) Wat Intharawaihan: Worth a visit to view the impressive 100ft tall standing Buddha.
