Description
Along Via XX Settembre, to the left of the cathedral, one can see the remains of the Roman city. Above all the remains of the Roman Theatre can be seen, partially covered by the new wing of the Royal Palace. There are also the remains of the Roman walls and a tower.
The imposing Palatine Gate with its two towers rises up next to the Roman walls. It was one of the entrances to the city and, as such, represents one of the best preserved examples of a Roman gate. Through the centuries it has been a residence of noblemen and also a female prison.
