Miniature golf is the thing to do when on vacation in Orlando. If you have not tried it yet, go to Pirates Cove. They have an awesome theme and 2 great courses, Blackbeard's challenge or the Captains challenge. They are open year round and have some of the best manicured mini-golf courses around, complete with sunken ships; cascading waterfalls; pirate dungeons; and lush, tropical vegetation. Kids will love it! Just watch out for stray cannons being shot into the lagoon! My husband and I go every time we are in Orlando.

Pirate's Cove Miniature Golf

Built with a pirate theme, this miniature golf place attempts to hold its own with the over-the-top themes their patrons see at Disney World. The animated pirates dual it out for bragging rights over head as canons boom and water sprays. Although it doesn't compare to a multi-million dollar amusement park, this is NOT the miniature golf with a circus theme you left at home.

My husband, now nearing 30, always remembers his trips to Disney World included an evening at the Pirate’s Cove. Updated since he was a kid, as we drove down International Drive he stared in awe as we passed the tall, cascading waterfall.

A must see for all ages. No need to have children to have a good time. As two newlywed couples going late at night under the lights, we loved it!

We have visited a number of Pirates Cove courses, our first in Bar Harbor. Whenever we see one in our travels, we have to try it out. The courses vary, but are generally the same idea. Quality course. This was near our hotel so we walked here after dinner to exercise off our food!

There are two 18-hole courses available. If you have kids under age 10 I would recommend the easier course, otherwise try Black Beard's Challenge. This was a great mini golf experience and I may say it is second only to the course at the Mall of America in Minnesota. Besides being a challenging course of slopes, obstacles, and sand traps, the flora and fauna were exceptional.

On one hole we looked out onto a waterfall and saw a family of baby ducks (trying) to follow their mama up an embankment. After they failed several times they decided to take the easy route. . .over the falls! Later on we saw they had made it safely to their family. A lot of the flowers were in bloom and there was a lot of greenery that blocked out the noise of the highway.

OK, back to the golfing. There is a lot of stairs and walking. On hole #15 you get a break from the bright Florida sunshine by hitting through a cave. I'd also like to mention that I had a hole in one on this hole! As you are leaving the cave there is a little animated pirate poker game going on. Overall this was a very clean, well-kept course that offered a challenge. Go early like we did (10:00am) to avoid the crowds.
