You can hire a pushbike, a tandem pushbike, a pushbike type cart for two, or a pushbike cart for a small family. We chose the cart for two and headed off to explore the park. The only map we had was from the hop on hop off bus, so it was not much help to us in the park and we had no idea where we were most of the time, and disagreed on our location the whole time.
These bikes are hilarious fun to ride, and get a real wobble up at speed downhill, and are really difficult to pedal uphill. Steve did the 'gentlemanly' thing of getting out and pushing me and the bike up the larger hills.
We rode across to Villa Borghese and looked around, and down to the Rome Zoo entrance. We had a great time doing this and I would recommend it as a nice change of pace. We returned the bike and had a good lunch at the restaurant in the park under the trees.
On walking back to the city along the road above the Plaza del Popolo we could see in to the rear gardens of the Hotel de Russi and promised ourselves that was where we would stay on our next visit. We walked down to the front of this hotel to take a closer look and found hordes of people with cameras waiting at the entrance. Apparently Brad Pitt and George Clooney were staying there whilst finishing filming for Ocean’s 12. I waited camera in hand for some time with the rest of the panting women, but Steve soon got sick of that and moved me along. Alas, I have no photos of Pitt or Clooney in Rome to show you - but we will be saving to stay at the Hotel de Russi if we return to Rome!
