Description
Because of its proximity to Richmond, Petersburg was a strategic location during the Civil War. A ten-month siege here in 1864 was the turning point of the war and the battlefield is the site of the largest military explosion before the atomic bomb.
The Petersburg National Battlefield Park, Blandford Church and the unusual Trapezium House are a few of many attractions in the city.
Petersburg is about thirty minutes from Richmond. Take I-95 south into the city.
