Orana Wildlife Park

Unlike many zoos or wildlife parks, Orana Park has large enclosures for the majority of its animals. While it may hinder viewing on occasions, the animals are always brought in for feeding. With over a dozen different feeding times across the day, the highlights are hand feeding giraffes and the Lion Encounter. While the public don't actually feed the lions, a group of 20 are allowed into a cage on a van with several keepers who feed the lions through the bars. An amazing experience, especially with lions on the van cage's roof looking in at you. Tip: Get to the park for 10am opening. Lion Encounter tickets are generally sold out in the opening 10 minutes or so. Note: only for children over 1.4m tall.
